Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has said that the state has received two new trains for the Blue Line Rail project.
The governor revealed this on his Instagram page while posting videos and images of the new trains on Monday.
He added that the new trains received were proof that Lagos was heading in the right direction.
He wrote: “Dear Lagos, we have received two new train sets for the Blue Line Rail. These passenger trains were cleared at the port of entry and moved to the National Theater station, where they were lifted onto the elevated railway tracks.
“Indeed, I am pleased to inform the good people of Lagos that with the arrival of these trains, we are well on our way with our plans to change the face of the rail transport system in Lagos State. In fact, a great Lakes is emerging”.
LASG announced in December that the infrastructure for the first phase of the Lagos Blue Rail Mass Transit Line was ready to operate and would carry around 200,000 passengers daily.
The LRMT Blue Line is a 27 kilometer rail system that will run from Marina to Okokomaiko.
LAMATA’s corporate communications consultant, Mr. Kolawole Ojelabi, said in a statement that the completion of the infrastructure fulfilled a promise made by Lagos State Governor Sanwo-Olu.
He said that Sanwo-Olu had promised that the project would be completed in the last quarter of 2022, before the start of passenger operations in the first quarter of 2023.
He explained that the LRMT Blue Line was one of six rail lines and the monorail prescribed for Lagos in the state’s Strategic Transportation Master Plan.
The rail system would be powered by electricity from an independent power plant that would be built specifically for its operations.
