The lifeless body of a level 300 student from the Federal Technological University, Akure, FUTA, was found hanging from the ceiling of his room on Saturday.
The deceased student, Joseph Olona, was said to have committed suicide in his off-campus accommodation situated within the axis of Aule, Akure, the capital of Ondo State.
Although the reason for the suicide is unknown, it was alleged that the Industrial Design student was depressed due to financial problems.
The DAILY POST has reported that his close friends discovered his body in the early hours of Saturday morning after they broke down his door when he did not respond to calls and knocks on his door.
The Facebook page of the deceased, who used to make designer clothes on his own initiative under the “Tart Angle” brand, was found to contain posts about suicidal thoughts, with most of them also containing messages seeking financial help for his business.
A post he made on his Facebook page on October 8, 2022 read: “Suicide answers everything, it is the only thing that listens to you and trusts you when you left everything to yourself. Good evening and bye.”
Confirming the incident as a case of suicide, the spokesman for the police in the state, SP Funmi Odunlami, revealed that an investigation had been launched to find out the motives for his action.
He added that “his body had been taken to the morgue.”
