Look Iwobi! Dyche takes charge of Everton

Everton have wasted no time in naming a new head coach after the sacking of Frank Lampard last week.

Sean Dyche was announced on Monday as the ex-teacher’s replacement, resuming immediately at Goodison Park on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

The Merseyside club, which pays the salaries of Nigerian midfielder Alex Iwobi, is back in the relegation battle this season, having barely survived last year’s slump under Lampard.

Meanwhile, Dyche’s immediate task will be to return the club (19th) to safety, with the 51-year-old manager deciding how crucial Iwobi will be to his plans.

The 26-year-old was a utility player under Lampard and the role allowed him to unlock some of his talents, but more importantly, it improved his work rate and involvement at both ends.

However, he only managed 1 goal and 6 assists in 20 appearances for the Toffees.

For Dyche, he returns to Management for the first time since his sacking as Burnley manager in 2022 and his first test could not have come sooner or more difficult than welcoming Arsenal (1st) to Goodison Park.

Similarly, for Iwobi, it will be up against his old team, and the Arsenal academy product will wish for a win to fuel his team’s renaissance.

There are 17 teams between the two sides, and Arsenal have scored 45 goals, 30 more than Saturday’s opponent, and have the second-best defensive record in the league.

A clear indication that Everton have a mountain to climb to get a result.
