Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku has identified Victor Osimhen as the ‘best striker’ after his great form with Serie A leaders Napoli.

  • Lukaku has praised Osimhen’s goalscoring exploits
  • Inter striker impressed by the Nigerian striker’s form
  • The two will meet in a Serie A clash on Wednesday.

WHAT HAPPENED? The Inter leader has revealed what has impressed him most about Osimhen’s performances this season, while identifying the Nigerian international as ‘the best striker’, presumably in the Italian top flight.

Osimhen is the top scorer in Serie A with nine goals in nine games, having scored eight times in as many games.

His goalscoring exploits have been lauded by several Serie A legends, including former AS Roma captain Francesco Totti and former AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi. Now Lukaku, top scorer in the Series in the 2020-21 season, also sings his praises.

WHAT DID HE SAY? ” [Luciano] Spalletti has done a great job, we have to say it,” Lukaku told Sky Sports.

“Them [Napoli] have really strong players. I’ve been out and seen a lot of their games. Napoli is in a good moment. Osimhen scores many goals, [Piotr] Zielinski is fine, Kvara. [Khvicha Kvaratskhelia]on the left, [Hirving] lush or [Matteo] Politano to the right.

“Osimhen is very strong. He is now the best striker. We have to be honest. He is strong and he is doing very well at Napoli. They are first in the ranking. We have respect, but not fear.”

THE LARGEST PHOTOGRAPH: Osimhen has lit up the Italian first division since joining Napoli from Lille for €70m in 2020, scoring 38 goals in 76 appearances.

The Nigerian international, who has 10 goals in 14 games in all competitions this season, has been praised for being an all-around striker possessing great pace and a powerful shot, while also being known for his aerial prowess.

Lukaku led Inter to the 2020-21 Serie A title after emerging as top scorer with 24 goals before leaving for Chelsea but having returned on loan to Milan, he was seen as one of Osimhen’s main rivals for the Golden Boot but He has scored only one goal in four games in a season plagued by injuries.

The Belgian international’s praise follows similar sentiments from Totti, who described Osimhen as “the strongest striker in Serie A” while Inzaghi called him “the best right now beyond Ballon d’Or winner Karim Benzema and Olivier Giroud”.

WHATS NEXT? Osimhen and Lukaku will meet on January 4 when Inter host Napoli in Serie A.
