Kylian Mbappe has spoken out against the president of the French Football Federation, Le Graet, who made some nasty comments about French legend Zinedine Zidane.
Mbappe, who led France to a penalty shootout to win back-to-back World Cups with eight goals in seven games, was quick to call Le Graet’s remarks about Zidane disrespectful in a tweet to his 11.3 million followers.
Zidane won a World Cup and a Euro Cup with France and scored three goals in two World Cup finals with the national team, earning him idol status for football fans across the country, and the support they has gathered face to Le Graet&rsquo. His statement is not surprising at all.
“I don’t give a damn” – FFF President Le Graet
Le Graet had commented to reporters at RMC Sport about the possibility of Zidane joining Brazil as manager, which has drawn widespread criticism. Now, Mbappé’s tweet has joined the general protest.
He stated that he did not care where Zidane would end up in his next managerial role, but he was sure it would not be with the France team. He then added that he wouldn’t have even picked up the phone if Zidane called him about work.
When asked by reporters about the possibility of Zidane joining Brazil, he said: “Zidane to Brazil? I don’t give a damn. He can go wherever he wants, to a club or a national team. I don’t really care. Did he try to call me Definitely not. I wouldn’t even have answered the phone for him.”
Mbappé responds to Zidane’s “disrespectful” comments
Mbappé responded on Twitter by reminding Le Graet that “Zidane is France” and disrespect for the legend would not be tolerated.
His tweet read “Zidane is France, so we don’t disrespect the legend… 🤦🏽♂️”
There has been no response from the FFF president, but he may eventually have to cave to pressure and apologize for his misstatements.
