Wazbak International Sports Academy recently gave a good account of themselves after defeating Iwaya’s Melody Football Club 3-1 in a penalty shootout after one goal each in regulation time to win the Lagos Football Divisional League 2021/22 recently held on the football field of the Railway Institute. , Yaba, Lagos.

Wazbak came from behind to score an equalizer through Ibrahim Ahmad in the 38th minute to end the first half with a goal apiece.

The second half was more interesting as both teams created some scoring chances which they failed to convert before they went to penalties.

Wazbak’s coach, Adeniyi Wasiu, expressed his joy that his team won the LDFA and congratulated his players for a job well done.

“We came to the league with a low profile, but today we are crowned champions against all odds. We were underdogs for the league title when the league started, but today we shame our critics and bookies that we are not pushovers.

“I dedicate this victory to the players, the coaching staff and our fans who support us throughout the league and we promise to represent the division well in the next Ekofootball league and possibly reach the final,” he said.

Melody manager Ibrahim Owolabi said it had been a good match but blamed the center refree for disallowing a goal that demoralized his players in the match.

“It was a tough game for both teams. This is how the final should be, but I’m not happy that our goal was disallowed, which really affected our performance. Secondly, we were unlucky on penalties and we would go back home and prepare for other competitions. ,”,he said.

However, Lagos Division Football Association President Akintunde Tinubu expressed his gratitude to God for the success of the league, saying that both teams played well, but the better team won the game.

He also thanked the LDFA board members, officials and media for their support given to the league to record great success and promised a better league in the next edition.
