In what is arguably the best World Cup final ever, there was a battle between Paris Saint-Germain stars Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi.

Messi scored two and Mbappé scored a hat-trick to light up the world in an extraordinary final match. Both players were level on goals going into the final.

Mbappé with three goals in the final won the golden boot award, beating Messi, who had seven goals.

The other great individual prize of the tournament was won by Argentine players.

Messi beat Mbappé and won the Ballon d’Or award. This is the second time he would win the best player award, the first being in the 2014 edition.

At 35 he also surpassed Croatia’s Luka Modric as the oldest player to win the award.

Benfica’s midfielder, Enzo Fernández, received the Young Player of the Tournament award ahead of Englishman Jude Bellingham.

Emiliano Martínez, of Aston Villa, won the goalkeeper of the tournament. He beat out Hugo Lloris and Croatian Dominik Livaković for the award.
