Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu said his administration has fulfilled its promise not to owe wages to workers in the state by paying workers on time and in the manner.
He said state workers had received their wages through November 2022, but the December wage delay was due to advice from labor leaders in the state to allow workers to meet financial obligations for the new year.
Akeredolu said this at the annual prayer meeting with state civil servants on Tuesday, the first working day of the year, held at the governor’s office, Akure, the state capital.
The governor, however, assured the workers that their December salary will be paid soon and promised that the remaining month of the inherited seven-month backlog will also be paid before the end of his term.
Addressing the workers, the governor said: “As you know, you received three alerts in December. We paid October and November 2022. Also received a license bonus. We would have paid in December, but the union leaders advised that we delay it until January to allow him to meet his financial obligations. students will resume soon. We will pay school fees.
“In addition, we inherited seven months of salary arrears, we paid six months. Before I leave the office, I’ll pay the rest.”
On the upcoming general election, the governor urged public officials to play the game by the rules while exercising their right to vote at the polls and not be partisan.
“Let me reiterate for the umpteenth time that public servants are not expected to get involved in partisan politics. Loyalty and absolute commitment must be the watchword of the service.
“Again, political discourse must be dignified and statutory civic. You will notice that our administration has insulated the bureaucracy from partisan politics,” he urged.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Service Chief Kayode Ogundele, who revealed that 8,415 public servants across the state were promoted with financial benefits in 2022, thanked the governor for his continued support in all areas related to the issues that affect public servants in the state. .
The HoS stated: “Thanks to Arakunrin (Akeredolu)’s commitment to the welfare of workers by ensuring payment of all outstanding wages. The current administration, in an attempt to reduce the labor deficit, has continued to recruit new labor in critical areas of need.
“For example, 52 temporary employees of the Ondo State Emergency Medical Services Agency recently received permanent appointments. Also, Ondo State workers and retirees have had a new lease on life under this administration.”
