FCT, Abuja – Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida, the newly appointed Director of Public Relations and Information (DOPRI) for the Nigerian Air Force, has called for synergy with the media to combat insecurity in Nigeria.

Maigida made the call on Friday, January 6, during a press conference where he took over from his predecessor, Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet at the NAF headquarters in Abuja.

Speaking at the award ceremony attended by legit.ng Regional correspondent, Maigida charged the media to remain at the center of their responsibility as intermediaries between the people and the authorities.

He stated that the media have the responsibility and power to reshape society into a better place and also help provide public information in others so that the authorities and security agencies like the Nigerian Air Force carry out their duties effectively.

maigida said:

“Keep in mind that in order for us to overcome security challenges, there must be a genuine partnership between the NAF and the media.”

However, he praised his predecessor for his historic achievement at the helm of affairs, noting that his tenure will enhance his legacy as the spokesman for the Nigerian Air Force.

Meanwhile, the outgoing spokesman, Gabkwet, urged the media to cooperate with his predecessor while carrying out his duties.

Gabkwet, who is now NAF 551 Station Commander Jos, described his predecessor as a qualified and certified public relations expert who will steer matters with the utmost professionalism.

Who is Air Commodore Wapkerem Maigida

The new spokesperson for the Nigerian Air Force was commissioned into the army in 1995 as a member of the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA) Regular Course 42.

Maigida earned an MA in Security and Strategic Studies as well as his first degree in History from the Nigerian Defense Academy (NDA).

He also obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations and Advertising from the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, Lagos.

Maigida has attended numerous military courses and has obtained a certificate at the International Center of the Swedish Armed Forces in Sweden.

He has attended courses in other countries such as Indonesia, Great Britain and China.

Major reorganization in the Nigerian Air Force with the appointment of new officers

Meanwhile, the boss, Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, has approved new appointments and redeployments in the Nigerian Air Force.

This was announced in a statement issued this Wednesday in January by Joel Abioye, director of public relations and information.

While congratulating the new appointees, the Chief of the Air Force urged them to be firm in the performance of their duties.
