The 21st edition of the National Sports Festival, NSF, which was previously scheduled between November 2 and 15, now has new dates.

A letter from the NSF Main Organizing Committee addressed Friday to the Commissioner and Directors of Athletics across the federation conveyed the new dates.

The letter stated that the NSF 2022 to be held in the Delta State will now be held from November 28 to December 10.

As explained in the memorandum signed by MOC Secretary Peter Nelson, the slight postponement is necessary due to the pace of ongoing works at various venues that will host events during the Games.

“I wish to convey the Delta State Government’s request to change the date of the 21st National Sports Festival, which was previously scheduled for November 2-15, 2022, is now changed to trading December 28-10, 2022 .

“The postponement is to allow more time to complete some installations for the festival.

We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you.

“While I appreciate your ‘cooperation, please accept sports greetings from the Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC),” read the letter sent to all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

In recent times, the National Sports Festival has been continually subject to one or another postponement for various reasons.

The last edition organized by Edo State was postponed four different times before finally taking place between April 4 and 15, 2021, almost a year after the originally set date.

The National Sports Festival organized by Edo State was initially scheduled for March 2020, but was continuously postponed due to the outbreak of COVID-19which also affected the social and economic activities of the time.

Delta State, the host of NSF 2022, has dominated what is fondly known as Nigeria’s version of the Olympics in recent years and would look to keep that momentum going on home soil.
