A non-governmental organization, Gift For The Needy and Youth Empowerment Initiative, has called on Nigerians to alleviate the plight of the underprivileged through employment.

According to the firm, this would cushion the effect of the tough economy on them. The NGO’s Executive Director, Ololade Olasupo-Gbonegun, gave the charge during a visit to the Lufuwape community in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State, to donate items to the less privileged in the community.

He stressed the need for the government and other non-governmental organizations to reduce poverty in society by creating job opportunities and a conducive environment for people to work and earn money.

She said: “It is customary in our organization to visit the less privileged in remote communities, especially during the festive period to support them.

“We carried out our field research and visited two other communities and through the study we were able to choose Lafuwape because it is a place we have never been to, and the area has a large number of less privileged people with many older people and others. They live in mud houses.

Acknowledging the donations, the Baale community of Lufuwape, Michael Oluwunmi, stated: “Our community has been in existence for over 300 years and it is heartwarming that this organization has visited us to donate items for our people.
