One group, the Niger Delta Patriots, vowed to resist any attempt by any group or individual to remove Godwin Emefiele as Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
Starting at an emergency meeting in Port Harcourt, the NDP’s national coordinator, Mr. Victor Okwereogu, declared that those who planned his removal were enemies of Nigeria’s socio-economic improvement.
The convener, in a statement issued in Asaba, observed that the resistance that is found due to the current monetary policy of the Emefiele-CBN headed is a premeditated maneuver to fight against corruption.
“The current resistance is a fight by corrupt politicians to derail Buhari’s fight against corruption. Frankly speaking, resistance is expected because the corruption will always try to fight back whenever it is under threat.
“So what we are experiencing now regarding CBN monetary policy is the fight against corruption with corrupt politicians pulling the strings behind the curtain.
“Apparently, the new monetary policy will not allow corrupt practices like vote buying, money laundering and the like to flourish, which is the reason behind the sinister move to remove Emefiele.
“Emefiele is driving the policy of the administration headed by Buhari, whose cardinal point is to fight corruption, and we strongly support him,” the statement read.
The group urged CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele to continue his good deeds, warning that the Nigerian Delta Patriots will vehemently resist every move by the wrongdoers to remove Emefiele.
