Several people reportedly lost their lives and others were injured when a driver rammed his car into a crowd celebrating the Calabar Carnival 2022, which entered the fifth day yesterday.

The incident occurred when a Camry car crashed into onlookers at the venue for the cycling segment of the carnival in front of the Bogobiri Central Mosque, Calabar, the capital of Cross River state.

Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Mikano Hassan, who narrated the incident, said the driver of a Toyota Camry car lost control and plowed into a crowd of onlookers who were standing in Bogobiri.

Hassan, who could not give the exact number of casualties, and those who sustained injuries, said the survivors were rushed to hospital for medical attention.
