Bayelsa state governor Douye Diri advised the electorate to avoid the mistake of voting for the ruling All Progressives Congress in the general elections on February 25 and March 11, saying it would amount to endorsing the dismal performance of the party if it voted to retain power in the center.
The governor urged them to vote en masse for all the Peoples’ Democratic Party candidates to ensure a landslide victory for the party.
Diri spoke at Government House in Yenagoa while addressing members of Ward To Ward For Diri/Lawrence, a sociopolitical group, who paid him a solidarity visit on Friday.
The governor, represented by his deputy Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, said that no one who really loved Nigeria would vote for the APC considering its record of lackluster performance over the past seven years.
A statement by the lieutenant governor’s press aide Doubara Atasi, quoted on Saturday, quoted Diri stressing that the APC could no longer be entrusted with political power and urging the group to work for the success of the PDP at all levels.
He claimed that his administration had made gigantic strides in developing infrastructure, education, security, sports and virtually every sector of the economy, adding that this was possible thanks to his preparation for governance and the continued support of all well-meaning inhabitants of Bayel.
“ APC has destroyed Nigeria and Nigerians cannot trust them. You cannot be trusted with power in this country. So vote PDP at all levels.”
Diri/Lawrence district-to-district director general Ogidi Bara-Ben said the group was satisfied with the performance of the governor’s administration in different areas, including progress on the construction of the Bayelsa Central senatorial road.
