‘Kuku Do Ritual’ is a eulogy to glorify and lift to the skies the names of ritual murderers

Islamic human rights organization, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC), has called on Nigerian music governing bodies to ban ‘Kuku Do Ritual’, a song by Afrobeats singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable.

‘Kuku Do Ritual’ is Portable’s first single of 2023.

The controversial singer released his debut album ‘Son of Ika’ in 2022, which includes the hit ‘Apostle‘ from his 2022 album, which took on controversial preacher, Apostle Suleman Johnson.

In the 3:58 minute song, Portable sings about different topics. However, the chorus of music is perceived as a glorification of ritual killings, which is a nightmare in Nigerian society.

“I go to school, but I profess, Kuku, kill me now because I’m wise. Why do you come from and stop? You go to school; you’re not wise… If you don’t do the ritual, you’re going to die,” sings the controversial artist.
