Nigerian Defense Minister Seeks UN Support to Reduce Border Crimes

New Advocates Border Security Template

Defense Minister Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) CFR has called on the United Nations to support the overall good performance of the Nigerian Armed Forces to completely end insecurity in parts of the country.

General Magashi stated this during a meeting with the expert delegation of the United Nations High-Level Independent Panel on Security, Governance and Development in the Sahel, held at the headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, Ship House Abuja.
He proudly stated that Nigeria is doing quite well under the watchful eye of the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, in curtailing the chutzpah and audacity of terrorists, especially in the north-eastern part of the country.

The Defense Minister put on record that Nigeria is comparatively contributing more than other cooperating States in matching funds, manpower deployment and provision of other logistics in the Multinational Joint Task Force, MNJTF.

However, he seriously advocated the enhancement of resources by the United Nations for the promotion of world peace and regional economic prosperity to reduce the high level of poverty at all levels.

UN Head of Mission and Leader of the four-man delegation, Mr. Abdullahi Boureima, together with Nigerian panelist, Professor Jibrin Ibrahim, put the mandate of the UN High-Level Panel into context, worrying about Security, Governance and Development concerns facing the Sahel region.

They said part of the reason for meeting across all the countries on their assignments, including Nigeria, is to articulate and aggregate views on how to effectively summarize the existential challenges facing the Sahel region.

While they thanked the Minister for approving the visit, they said that capturing Nigeria’s perspective on the way forward is related to their tasks, which set the tone for the meeting.

The interface between the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defense, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the present minim and other senior managers, as well as the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Danlami Ibrahim, fit into a question and answer session to bring the strategy meeting to its logical point. End.
