Bola Tinubu is capable of vastly improving Nigeria’s democracy, Ondo Governor Rotimi Akeredolu said, urging Nigerians to vote for the All Progressive Congress candidate in next month’s presidential election.

“As the 2023 general election approaches, let us make a conscious effort to deepen our democratic gains by electing a competent candidate as the next president,” the governor said in the statement issued by his chief press secretary, Richard Olatunde, on Sunday. , adding that “Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is capable of greatly improving our democracy.”

Akeredolu, who also serves as the chairman of the Southern Governors Forum (SGF), has been steadfast in his support for the former Lagos governor since he emerged as a presidential candidate.

Mr Tinubu, 70, is set to join at least 17 other candidates in the February 25 presidential election, including Messrs Atiku Abubakar (PDP), Peter Obi (LP) and NNPP’s Rabiu Kwankwaso.

The APC candidate, who is believed to have health problems, has repeatedly told Nigerians that he is the most qualified for the country’s top job.

He also stated that he deserved to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari based on his (Tinubu) background, especially as a former two-term Governor of Lagos.

Speaking further, Mr Akeredolu said Nigerians should consider the backgrounds of the candidates running in the 2023 race to form their support.

He reiterated again that religion should not determine who to vote for in elections, saying Nigerians are too sophisticated to be fooled by politicians who interpret religion as a mark of politics.

“Let’s promote ability over religious affinity. We must not throw overboard the history and scope established by superficial hatred.

“We are too sophisticated to be pawns in the hands of duplicitous politicians who play religion as a brand of politics. We must be decisive without succumbing to the whims of speculation and rumors,” she added.

Mr. Akeredolu stated that the people needed to intensify their prayers for a peaceful conduct of the nation’s general elections. The governor urged his compatriots to rededicate themselves to the unity and progress of the nation.

“2023 is a very crucial year, especially in the life of our country. We must be deliberate in making the right decisions. Our collective goals must show our respect for our diverse interests,” the governor said.
