The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast dust haze weather conditions for Monday to Wednesday across the country.
The NiMet weather forecast released in Abuja on Sunday predicted a thick dust haze with a horizontal visibility of less than or equal to 1,000m over the northern region during the forecast period on Monday.
According to him, a moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 2 km to 5 km is expected over the north central region with prospects for horizontal visibility of less than or equal to 1000 m over parts of Niger within the forecast period.
“A moderate dust haze condition with a horizontal visibility range of 2 km to 5 km is anticipated over southern inland cities during the forecast period.
“A hazy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is anticipated over the southern coastal cities during the forecast period,” it said.
The agency forecast a thick dust haze on Tuesday with a horizontal visibility of less than or equal to 1,000m over the northern region during the forecast period.
Moderate dust haze was forecast over the north central region with prospects for horizontal visibility reduced to 1,000 m or less, over parts of Niger, Benue, Kwara and the Federal Capital Territory.
“A moderate dust haze condition with a horizontal visibility range of 2 km to 5 km is expected over southern inland cities during the forecast period.
“A hazy atmosphere with a spell of sunshine is anticipated over southern coastal cities during the forecast period,” it said.
NiMet forecast a thick dust haze on Wednesday with a horizontal visibility of less than or equal to 1,000m over the northern region during the forecast period.
“A moderate dust haze with a horizontal visibility range of 2 km to 5 km is anticipated over the north central region with prospects of horizontal visibility reduced to 1,000 m or less over parts of Niger, Benue, Kwara and Nasarawa states.
“A moderate dust haze condition with a horizontal visibility range of 2 km to 5 km is expected over southern inland cities during the forecast period.
“Sunny and hazy conditions are expected over the southern coastal cities during the forecast period.
“The public is advised to take the necessary precautions due to the dust particles currently suspended above the atmosphere.
“People with respiratory problems should protect themselves as the current dusty weather conditions are adverse to their health,” he said.
He suggested warm clothes for the little ones as cold temperatures should be expected at night.
NiMet urged all airline operators to regularly take advantage of their office’s weather reports for effective planning of their operations.
