The Deputy Director of Public Affairs of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Kehinde Bamigbetan, and his counterpart in the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council, Anthony Ehilebo, have said that the endorsement of the Party’s presidential candidate Labour, Peter Obi, on behalf of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, has no electoral value.

This was revealed by the heads of the APC and the PDP in an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program on Monday morning, monitored by our correspondent.

Bamigbetan said Obasanjo’s endorsement would not change anything, adding that the former president is entitled to his own personal opinions.

He further said that Obasanjo would not be able to hand over his voting booth to Labor Party candidate Obi.

“Obasanjo endorsing Obi doesn’t make any difference. We have seen it coming and we are not surprised that he has taken that step because we have seen the signs. It will not translate into votes because Obasanjo said so. He (Obasanjo) won’t even be able to hand over his voting booth in Abeokuta to Obi.”

Asked if the endorsement had any electoral value, Bamigbetan said: “It has no electoral value. We know that it is a project that he (Obasanjo) has been working on for the last two or three years and it will soon blow up in his face.”

Similarly, PDP campaign council member Ehilabo said no one would notice Obasanjo’s endorsement of Obi.

Ehilabo said: “No one is going to know what Obasanjo says, his opinion would not even be heard in my town. It will not influence any vote. He is an opinion leader, he is entitled to his opinion.

“The pragmatic choice for Nigerians would be who can get us out of this position and who has done it before.”

the punch reported on Sunday that Obasanjo in a letter to Nigerians endorsed Obi as their chosen candidate for president ahead of the 2023 presidential election in February.

In the 2023 New Year message signed by the former president and made available to journalists by his aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo described Obi as his apprentice and said the former Anambra state governor had an advantage in the 2023 election. .

Obasanjo said: “None of the contestants are saints, but when one compares their character, background, understanding, knowledge, discipline and vitality they can bring to the table and the great efforts required to stay focused on work, particularly looking at where the country is today and with the experience on the job that I personally had, Peter Obi as an apprentice has an advantage.

“Others, like all of us, have what they can collectively contribute to the new dispensation for the deliverance, restoration and salvation of Nigeria.

“Another important point to note about Peter is that he is a needle with threads attached from the north and south and may not get lost.

“In other words, you have people who can pull your ears, if and when you need to. He has a capable young running mate with a clean record of achievement in both public and private life.”
