All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council spokesman Festus Keyamo, SAN, has said that former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s endorsement of Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi is bad for the Democratic Party presidential candidate of the Peoples, Atiku Abubakar.
Obasanjo, in his New Year message to Nigerians, described Obi as someone who has an advantage in terms of character, background, understanding, knowledge, discipline and vitality over other candidates in the 2023 presidential election.
In reaction, Keyamo, in a tweet on Sunday, said the endorsement had no effect on APC presidential candidate Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
However, he claimed that the endorsement meant that Obasanjo did not see Atiku, who was the vice president of his administration, as deserving of the presidency.
Keyamo wrote: “OBJ has every right to back anyone, but it is bad for the PDP in two ways: 1) The former head of Atiku doesn’t think he deserves to be president this time. 2) The little support that OBJ gave PDP in 2019 and they failed, that has taken away from LP. No effect at all on @officialABAT.”
In response, Atiku’s media advisor Paul Ibe criticized Keyamo, saying: “OBJ has the right to endorse anyone. But it is within the rights of Nigerians to choose their president. Were you in Ghana rehabbing like your friend to have forgotten that the Obj-Atiku administration produced the biggest economic boom in Nigerian history? Those are the considerations that Nigerians will make.”
