Mormar Marine workers staged a peaceful protest in Agbarha-Otor, Ughelli North Local Government Area in Delta state, demanding immediate payment of six months’ back wages allegedly owed to them by Nigerian Petroleum Development Company Limited/ Heritage Energy.

The company, which is a contracting company for NPDC, Heritage and Shoreline, protects the oil facilities from vandal activities at OML 30. They protested Thursday.

One of the coordinators of the protesting workers, Tennyson Oriunu, in addressing the journalists, lamented the agony that the workers have been going through after the non-payment of their wages by the oil companies.

He said: “We are the people who protect the oil installations from vandalism and violations, but for the last six months we have not been paid our salaries. Even at Christmas, nothing came.

“The reason why all the workers gathered here today is to register their complaints about not receiving their six months’ salary.”

Although he pointed out that this is a peaceful protest and that the first step is being taken to intimidate the companies involved about their pains, however, he warned that if the company’s management does not listen and comply with their demands, measures will be taken. drastic measures that might not benefit the oil companies. .
