A crisis broke out at the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) concentration camp in Edo state on Wednesday, January 16.

It was learned that campaign activities were put on hold after the event venue was riddled with bullets leaving one dead while many others suffered varying degrees of injuries.

Sources speaking about the incident said it started in Ewu, Esan central local government area, as the victims are receiving medical care at an undisclosed facility.

Officials confirm the incident

Confirming the incident, LGA campaign manager Anselm Ojezua said one person was killed and many others were injured at the rally site.

Ojezua, in a statement signed on Thursday, January 19, said that reports of the incident have been submitted to the police station for further investigations.

He also added that some party leaders who were disturbed by the incident decided to take the members to a different location safe enough for the demonstration.

His words:

“The PDP, as a peace-loving political party that understands the place of the rule of law in a constitutional democracy, has reported this sad and unfortunate development to the police for a thorough investigation into the matter.

“We later learned of the potential loss of life in this incident, which has led us as a party to suspend all political campaign rallies until the police present their investigation and findings.”

Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) said that Nigeria will prevail over all the forces of darkness.

The ex-governor of Lagos State made this revelation in a statement signed and published by his press aide on Tuesday, January 10.

According to Tinubu, he is running for the 2023 presidency to end the incessant attacks by terrorists and bandits in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, Nigerians in the southeast region will vote en masse for Bola Tinubu, the standard-bearer for the All Progressives Congress, Governor Hope Uzodimma said.

The governor said Nigerians are in dire need of leaders who care about the interests of the people.
