He Nigerian Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo expressed confidence in Nigeria’s technological growth, saying the country has a crop of talented and innovative young people who will sustain the boom and ensure Nigeria is not left behind.

The vice president stated this at the end of Interswitch’s 20th anniversary which took place over the weekend in Lagos.

While noting that innovation and technology open up exciting new frontiers in medicine and healthcare, the Vice President was confident that Nigeria would not be left behind in these areas because it has many talented young entrepreneurs and entrepreneurs.

According to him, with the rapid growth of innovation and technology recorded over the years globally, Nigerian innovators need to explore and tap into even more exciting new frontiers.

The role of government: Reiterating the Buhari Administration’s commitment to providing an enabling environment for young entrepreneurs and businesses to thrive, Osinbajo said:

· “Our responsibility as government has been to meet them halfway, and perhaps overcome them with corresponding creativity in providing forward-thinking regulatory frameworks and adequate infrastructure. I can assure you that no effort is spared in this regard.

· “However, much remains to be done; and a lot of ground to cover. However, I have no doubt that we are up to the task.”

Osibanjo praised the pivotal role of the payments company in shaping and growing the Nigerian payment system over the past two decades. Speaking of Interswitch, he said:

“It is incredible that what started as a noble idea, in just two decades, has become an icon of technology and innovation, literally pioneering the ongoing fintech revolution in Africa. In 2002, only 569 million people were connected to the Internet worldwide, and at the time, Nigeria had fewer than 200,000 people with Internet access. Therefore, it is a testament to the quality of talent and courage of the Interswitch founders who saw the future clearly and predicted the potential of a nascent technology for scale and application.”

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, who was on hand to celebrate the milestone, congratulated the organization on the milestone and applauded Interswitch for being a laudable example of the good that can come out of Nigeria.
