Osun State College of Technology Esa Oke Chancellor Dr. Samson Adegoke on Monday narrowly escaped death when suspected assassins reportedly fired at his vehicle.

According to the sources, Adegoke had left Esa Oke for the town of Ilesa a few minutes before 4:00 pm, when suspected assassins traveling in a Toyota Camry opened fire on his vehicle.

Although Adegoke and his driver were unharmed, the vehicle he was traveling in was badly damaged as a result of bullets fired at him by the assailants.

When contacted, Adegoke confirmed the incident, saying the attack was reported to the police in Ijebu Jesa.

He said: “It happened between 3:30 and 4:00 pm on Monday at the Eti Oni junction (an area between Ijebu Jesa and Esa Oke). I was coming from school (Esa Oke), and a Toyota Camry was trying to go against traffic and pass us.

“Unfortunately for him, a tipper was coming, so the car couldn’t overtake us. And we were able to move on. Thereafter the car passed close to us and opened fire, but we did not stop.

“We would go until the vehicle could no longer move. I reported the incident to the police at the Ijebu Jesa police station and they are aware. Police said they are taking action.”

Osun Police Command Public Relations Officer Yemisi Opalola told our correspondent during an interview that the incident was reported, adding that the Command had already started an investigation into it.
