A mini sports festival is being organized in Oyo State for children to show their sports talents.

The brains behind the competition are the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State chapter with the State Athletics Association under the leadership of Dr. Isaac Friday Ogada and his sports promotion team JERONA International Sports.

The competition, strictly for children under 13 years of age and Basic Secondary students, will feature soccer and athletics.

In an exclusive talk, the president of the State Athletics Association, who is also the initiator of the program, Dr. Isaac Friday Ogada, explained that the competition aims to fish for budding talents and prepare them for future development.

“It’s a catch-you-youth program that aims to discover future athletes who will represent the state and country in national and international competitions,” said Dr. Ogada.

He added that the competition will be an elaborate platform for legal persons to exercise their corporate social responsibilities (CSR).

Towards the realization of this, the leadership of the Nigerian Sports Writers Association in the state has formed a twelve man Committee to organize the competition.

According to the President of Oyo SWAN, Mr. Niyi Alebiosu, the Organizing Committee will be headed by the Secretary of the Association, Mr. Adewale Tijani, while the Secretary of the Committee is Mr. Tolulope Raymond of Noble FM Ibadan.

The committee also includes the General Manager of Fresh FM Abeokuta, who remains an active member of Oyo SWAN, Mr. Samson Akindele, as well as SWAN Vice President (Southwest), Mr. Femi Amusan of Raypower/AIT, Mr. Dapo Okunubi of Solutions FM Ibadan. , Mr Abass Ishola (Solutions FM), Mr Afeez Afolabi (Impact Business Radio Ibadan), with Ola Olanrewaju from Ibadan Media, a celebrity magazine.

Other members of the Committee are Miss Blessing Fowowe of Splash FM, Mr Obadare Oladosu (Pensioners FM Ibadan), Mr Ademola Olamilekan (I-Flier FM) and Mr Robinson Ayodele, a versatile engineer who combines sports administration with sports journalism.

Alebiosu says:
“The Committee will work with a Consultant who has extensive knowledge and experience in organizing sports competitions and other large events, Ms. Sharon Vincent of Respite Global Resources. This is to attract massive sponsorships and allowed an excellent organization of the Sport Fiesta”.

Shedding more light on the proposed Sports Festival, the chairman of its Organizing Committee, Mr. Adewale Tijani, said that pupils from the state’s private high schools are expected to participate in the competition, which will see the participation of football scouts. , grassroots sports coaches and other headhunters.

“Of course, sports regulatory bodies such as the State Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Oyo State Sports Council, the Oyo State Football Association are going to participate. The Committee also plans to bring in the National Association of Private School Owners (NAPPS), the Private School Games Association (PRISGA) and Flyer, a private radio station in Ibadan,” Tijani said.

The competition is scheduled to be held between February 4-23, 2023 at the University of Ibadan Sports Complex and Lekan Salami Adamasingba Ibadan Stadium.
