• The Nigerian Labor Congress has reiterated its support for Labor Party presidential candidate Peter Obi
  • Unions had previously backed the aspirations of the former Anambra state governor ahead of the 2023 elections.
  • The president of the congress, however, pointed out that despite the endorsement, Nigerian workers retain the right to choose who they want to vote for.

FCT, Abuja – The Nigerian Labor Congress (NLC) said on Thursday 26 January that its decision to support Peter Obi, the Labor Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, was non-negotiable.

Giving reasons for its stance, the NLC said Nigerian workers will only vote for worker-friendly candidates in the upcoming elections.

This is because the NLC has demanded urgent action from the nation’s main bank, the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, to review the Naira redraw policy, including extending its terms.

He urged the country’s workers to make sure they use their votes to install credible leadership in the upcoming general elections.

Comrade Wabba urged workers to ensure that political parties and candidates with anti-popular policies are denied access to power.

According to him, the workers are numerous in the country, and stressed that their impact will greatly contribute to the installation of a popular government in the next elections.

Vanguard quoted him as saying:

“Our workers are already in the field mobilizing and campaigning to make sure only pro-labor people are elected to office in the next general election. We are tired of those false promises from politicians.”

However, he said support for the Labor Party is unhealthy as workers reserve the right to withhold support for any candidate of their choice.

Peter Obi makes a surprise visit to South Borno and makes history

Recall that Obi paid a historic visit to the southern Borno region as part of his presidential campaign tour recently.

Labor Party officials say Obi is the first presidential candidate to visit the insurgency-ravaged region.

The former governor of Anambra State received an enthusiastic welcome from local people who came out to see him.
