From Tunde Omolehin, Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on the country’s politicians to conduct politics without rancor.

He gave up the post when he received the APC governor’s campaign council who visited him at his palace.

The sultan also called on politicians to avoid using abusive words during election campaigns.

According to him, campaigns should be based on issues, not on smearing others.

Abubakar also stressed the need for peaceful coexistence among citizens in the interest of the nation.

“Hold your campaign rallies peacefully without endangering the peaceful atmosphere,” he added.

“As Muslims, we must understand that power is in the hands of Allah Almighty, who gives it to whoever he wants,” he added.

In addition, he appealed to politicians to maintain the good relationship between them at all times.

On the new exchange of renounced naira notes, Sultan Sa’ad said that the 10-day extension by Apex bank is not enough.

Earlier, APC governorate campaign council director general and police affairs minister Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi told the monarch they were in the palace to formally introduce their gubernatorial candidate in the upcoming elections.

He requested the monarch’s support and parental prayers to succeed at the polls.

In his remarks, APC gubernatorial candidate Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto praised the Sultan for the role he plays in ensuring peaceful coexistence among Nigerians.

He highlighted the contributions of the founding fathers of the Sokoto Caliphate, especially their literary works that stand the test of time.

“I want to assure you, sir, that if I am elected governor, I will do everything possible to protect the dignity of this revered institution,” he added.

He requested the monarch’s support and prayers for his gubernatorial candidate.

He thanked the sultan for taking the campaign council opportunity to meet with him, despite their busy schedules.
