The IRT revealed this in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday night.

It read: “Operatives from the police team led by DCP Olatunji Disu arrested the suspect in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, after he fled the crime scene in Lugbe, in the nation’s capital. , to live squatting with a single mother. who turned out to be his new found lover.”

Questioning the suspects at the Guzape Abuja intelligence team office, police authorities said the suspect was arrested after receiving credible and reliable information about his movement.

The statement added: “The suspect who said that he studied and graduated from Department of Mass Communication, Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa State and resides in Abuja before the incident, added that the incident occurred inadvertently on October 23, 2022, in the apartment of the deceased in Lugbe after a fight between them.

“He confessed to having used a mortar to carry out the cowardly act that fateful day after the lady invited him to her house on the day of the sad incident and started fights with him over his refusal to start marriage proposals with her and various other issues.

“He further said that he was unemployed when the relationship began and had to go back to school to read phonology before finding a job at a private school as an administrator and teaching staff before the late lover’s murder.”

Recounting how the murder was perfected, the police said that Tochukwu had allegedly refused to eat at the deceased’s residence during a visit because he was avoiding her due to his temper and their quarrels, an action that led her to demand that he return her the car. gift, as she took the mortar to attack him after he refused to return the gift.

Police further noted that the deceased’s older sister, who requested anonymity, said in her testimony that she and her husband reported the matter to the Lugbe Police Division after the caretaker of the deceased’s rented house called her. to inform him of the disappearance of his sister.

“She also said that it was herself, the police and some friends of the deceased who broke open Phyllis’s house and recovered her decomposing body wrapped in a rug,” police added.
