Seven days after a suspect, Lekan Adekanbi, in the gruesome murder of a couple and their son escaped custody, he has yet to be recaptured by the Ogun State Police Command.
Adekanbi was arrested following the murder of a former Central Bank of Nigeria worker, Kehinde Fatinoye; his wife, Bukola; and his son, Oreoluwa, after returning from a cross service on January 1, 2023.
Adekanbi was the driver for the late Bukola and was arrested for the incident.
However, he collapsed shortly after being taken to the Ibara police station.
He was subsequently rushed to the police clinic, Oke-Ilewo, Abeokuta, from where he escaped.
“At the hospital, Lekan (Adekanbi) pretended that he wanted to urinate and ran away,” a source said.
Police authorities later dismissed the divisional police officer in charge of Ibara, Abeokuta, CSP Bernard Ediagbonya and another for alleged negligence.
After his removal, the DPO and another officer were ordered to resume at Police Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.
A police source said the suspect’s disappearance created tension within the command and could force the command to give the officers an orderly trial.
PUNCH Subway he deduced that a top team from the commando was still pursuing the suspect.
Meanwhile, a new DPO was deployed at the Ibara division police station on Monday.
“The new DPO can address officers and police tomorrow when it resumes.
“The former DPO and the other officer have been asked to be on standby at Eleweran until further notice,” a source added.
