A retired military colonel, Rabiu Yandoto, and his two sons remain in captivity as the bandits demanded a ransom of 50 million naira.
Remember that some armed men suspected of being bandits kidnapped Yandoto (retired) and his two sons along Gusau-Tsafe Road in Zamfara state last week.
The retired colonel was returning to his hometown with his two sons when they were ambushed by bandits and taken into the woods.
speaking to PUNCH Subway Over the phone, one of Yandoto’s relatives, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, said the bandits called him and demanded a ransom of N50m.
The money, according to him, was later reduced to N5m after a series of negotiations.
“We thought he was dead because we suspect he was kidnapped by hitmen for political reasons.
“We are trying to raise the amount through donations from family and friends,” he added.
State police command spokesman SP Mohammed Shehu said he was not aware of the ransom demanded by the bandits.
“All I know is that the command, under the direction of CP Kolo Yusuf’s bureau, is doing everything possible to rescue him,” he added.
