Security agents have rescued a female soldier kidnapped by armed men on Monday.
The soldier identified as Lt. PP Johnson was kidnapped and stripped naked by her assailants.
In video made by his kidnappers and obtained by our correspondent, one of the gunmen is heard promising to deal with all serving military personnel.
He also said that his group was different from the Indigenous People of Biafra, saying that they wanted to secede from the country.
He said: “This is information for all of you who are still in the Nigerian Army. That’s all you will die one by one. Today December 26, we are in Enugu, we will fight against our enemies, so we will deal with you who are still in service. These are unknown gunmen, we have nothing to do with IPOB. What we are after is Biafra, whether they like it or not, we must get our freedom.”
However, a sign from the military seen by our correspondent on Thursday said the mastermind behind the incident had been arrested.
It read: “At approximately 2:20 pm on December 29, 2022, security forces rescued Lieutenant PP Johnson, who was abducted by armed men and taken to a forest bordering Enugu and Ihube state in the area of the Okigwe local government, Imo State, on December 26, 2022. .
“The mastermind behind the kidnapping has also been arrested by security forces as efforts to arrest the others continue. The situation is still being monitored at this time. Video attached.”
