The Labor Party has frowned on the new detention of its former director-general of the party’s Presidential Campaign Council, Dr Doyin Okupe, by the Department of State Services, describing it as “shameful”.

The party described the new arrest as unjustified because Okupe complied with the condition of his release following his money laundering conviction.

The main spokesperson for the party’s Presidential Campaign Council, Yunusa Tanko, said: “I can confirm that Dr. Doyin is fine, he left Awolowo, the DSS facility just moments ago, and the DSS apologized to him for the mistake he made. they committed. to re-arrest him.

“For us, we feel that this is a shame for someone who already paid for the accusation that was made against him in the Federal High Court because if he had anything left, he would not have walked out of the court premises a free man. .

“This was orchestrated to embarrass him, DSS apologizes to him, which I can confirm to you directly, that he is released and is continuing on his journey.”

However, contrary to the party’s position, Okupe had said that it was the EFCC that apologized to him for the commission’s error in his new arrest.

In a tweet on his official account, Okupe wrote: “I was arrested and detained at Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, this morning, January 12, on my way to the UK for medical examinations, years after the FHC retained my passport. . Abuja.

“I have just left the EFCC office where senior and junior officers in Lagos and Abuja have apologized to me for the mistake.”

Consulting the action, he asked if it was an occupational hazard.
