The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as a Shiite, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, has discredited reports of his alleged endorsement of Labor Party (LP) presidential candidate Peter Obi.

In a statement from his lawyer on Saturday, El-Zakzaky said the report was a falsehood that should be ignored as he had not endorsed Obi or any presidential candidate for the 2023 election.

Viral reports that emerged on Friday claimed that the Shiite leader had supported the former Anambra state governor and urged his members to get their PVCs and vote for Obi.

However, in the statement signed by Marshall Abubakar of Falana & Falana Chambers, El-Zakzaky dismissed the rumors as a figment of the “fake news” bearers’ imaginations.

“That is fake news. I can confirm that there is none of that, although he has been approached by some presidential candidates, he has refrained from endorsing any of them because he believes that the 2023 presidential race lacks ideological bias,” Marshal said.
