A kidnapped victim was rescued alive by men from the Delta State Police Command, while the alleged kidnapper was killed just as a pump-action pistol with six rounds of cartridges was being retrieved from the thug.

PUNCH Subway deduced that the victim (name withheld) was kidnapped with her car in Ugborikoko, on the night of December 28, 2022, at around 10:15 pm, as the kidnappers drove away with the victim’s car.

Following a tip that the kidnappers were heading towards Agbarho with the victim’s car, the Agbarho Division police officer deployed officers to the Warri-Ughelli highway to carry out an intensive stop and search in order to rescue the victim and arrest the suspects

It was learned that while the police were conducting the search, they intercepted a Mercedes GLK van (registration under reserve) that matches the description of the victim’s vehicle.

The suspect, Oghenetega Ovwa, a 25-year-old from Ugborikoko who was driving the vehicle, was instantly arrested. Searching the vehicle, police recovered a pump-action pistol with six rounds of cartridges.

Delta State Command Police Public Relations Officer DSP Bright Edafe stated that during the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to being a member of the kidnapping gang that earlier kidnapped the owner of the Mercedes car.

He then led the team to his hideout at Ugborikoko in the Warri South local government area where, upon arrival, the gang members engaged the police in a gun duel.

However, the suspect was hit during the heavy weapons duel, while other gang members escaped.

The victim was rescued unharmed and has been reunited with his family.

Our correspondent deduced that the suspect, who suffered serious gunshot wounds during the armed duel, was taken to the hospital where his death was confirmed.

Meanwhile, the search for the fleeing gang members continues, according to the police spokesman.
