State Police Public Relations Officer SP Abimbola Oyeyemi explained that a police sergeant attached to the Traffic Section of the Owode Egba Division headquarters was appointed to rescue some victims of the accident and bring the vehicle involved to the police station. station.

Oyeyemi added: “But upon arrival at the scene, the suspects attacked the police officer and the driver of the tow vehicle with a sledgehammer, a stick and other weapons to prevent them from taking one of the vehicles involved to the station for further investigation.

“The police officer and the driver of the tow vehicle managed to escape the scene and rushed to the station with varying degrees of injuries.

“Divisional Police Officer, Owode Egba Division, CSP Olasunkanmi Popoola, when prodded to, led his men to the location where he met the suspects who had already poured gasoline into the tow vehicle and set it on fire after withdrawing the sum in cash of N520,000 belonging to the driver of the towing vehicle.

“Three of the thugs were arrested, while others escaped. But the remaining gasoline was recovered from them.”

PPRO said Police Commissioner Lanre Bankole had ordered those who escaped to be hunted down and brought to court.

Meanwhile, as-yet-unidentified assailants killed four people inside a compound at Nodu Town Square, Nodu Okpuno, near Awka, Anambra State, on Monday.
