The thugs attacked Sokoto state governor Aminu Tambuwal’s convoy in the state’s Wamakko local government area on Sunday.
Tambuwal’s aide confirmed the Sunday night attack on the governor’s convoy shortly after he led the Popular Democratic Party campaign rally in the local governments of Silame and Wamakko.
The aide, who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity, confirmed the attack but said the governor held only brief meetings with his party leaders without any official reaction.
According to the source, the cars were returning from the third stage of the PDP’s state election campaign in the local government areas of Silame and Wamakko on Sunday evening.
The attackers hurled rocks at the moving vehicles of the convoy, hitting the front windshield of the official van of the Governor’s Special Adviser for Media and Publicity and piercing the rear window of the next official van in which the Governor’s Permanent Secretary (Protocol) was traveling .
The stone that damaged the protocol car barely missed the governor’s special adviser on public affairs, Mallam Abu Shekara, splashing his face with shards of glass from the broken door screen.
tambuwal; his deputy, Manir Muhammad Dan Iya; PDP state gubernatorial candidate Saidu Umar; the candidate for lieutenant governor, Sagiru Bafarawa; and Kebbi State PDP gubernatorial candidate General Aminu Bande (ret.); and other PPD bigwigs in the state, all of whom were in the convoy, were not injured.
Wamakko is the hometown of the former state governor and leader of the All Progressive Congress APC opposition in the state, Aliyu Wamakko.
