Some thugs have set fire to the Umuchu Police Station, along the Umuchu-Achina Highway, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The sources said that the thugs broke into the venue around 3 am on Sunday and set the premises on fire.

It was deduced that the station was recently renovated by members of the Umuchu Improvement Union, as it was destroyed during the #EndSARS protest in 2020.

Community leaders, according to the source, renovated the station and its attached infrastructure and upgraded it to conform to the status of a divisional police station before donating it to the Nigerian Police Force to help in the fight against insecurity. In the area.

There was no casualty record as security agents had evacuated the station to another location after it was destroyed during the #EndSARS protest and had not yet returned.

The station was vacated after it was attacked in 2020 and there were no police officers on duty at the time of Sunday’s attack.

Confirming the incident, Umuchu Progressive Union Chairman General Charles Ezeabasili said: “This is discouraging and unfortunate. While the UIU has upgraded the facilities at the police station and awaited the return of police personnel, the thugs are busy destroying, demolishing and burning the facilities intended for our own good. How do we progress?

State police spokesman DSP Tochukwu Ikenga could not be reached for his reactions as he did not respond to messages and calls to his hotline.
