Congress of All Progressives presidential candidate Bola Tinubu says reports linking him to a meeting with the five governors of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, popularly known as the G-5, were unsubstantiated and had “bad intentions”. .
There were press reports about Tinubu’s alleged marathon meeting with PDP governors in London, UK, on Tuesday.
He was said to have met with governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) and Samuel Ortom (Benue), an allegation the Rivers state governor denied on Friday. in Port. Harcourt.
Reacting to the news three days after it broke, Tinubu, in a statement issued on New Year’s Eve by his media officer, Tunde Rahman, revealed that the report was the figment of the writer’s imagination.
While insisting that he has the right to meet with any politician or political actor of his choice, the former Lagos state governor has also warned those spreading the rumors to desist immediately.
The statement read: “As usual with him when the year is drawing to a close to take time out of his busy schedule, get some rest and head to Saudi Arabia to observe Umrah (minor Hajj), Tinubu was in London during the week en route Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
“While in the UK, Tinubu noticed some articles in some national newspapers in Nigeria, alleging that a secret meeting was held in London between him and the G-5 governors who are members of the Peoples’ Democratic Party.
“These reports, to say the least, are not only in bad faith but also with bad intentions. They were published to further the political interests of the writers and their patrons.
“The presidential standard-bearer of the All Progressives Congress, HE Asiwaju Tinubu, is not bothered by these articles or their well-known sponsors. He is resolutely focused on his campaign goals, which are geared toward achieving victory in the upcoming presidential election to fulfill APC’s Action Plan to bring Renewed Hope to our people in all facets of their lives.
“But we must point out that the APC candidate has the right to meet with any political actor or stakeholder who is important to his campaign and plans for the country and who wishes to engage with him.
“The truth regarding his current itinerary is as follows, Tinubu arrived in London on Monday, December 26, 2022, to spend a few days preparing his trip to Saudi Arabia. After spending some time in London, he has now headed for Mecca, where he is currently observing Umrah.
“He plans to return to the country within the next two days to continue the campaign. We would like to take this opportunity to advise those writing baseless articles and spreading rumors about him to desist immediately.”
