Victor Osimhen enjoys an important role in Napoli

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has opened up about his role as team leader.

The Nigerian scored his tenth Serie A goal of the season in Napoli’s 2-0 win over Sampdoria.

Napoli had started the year with a 1-0 loss to Inter Milan at the San Siro last Monday, but victory got them going again.

“I want to congratulate the team, we deserved the win,” Osimhen told DAZN.

“It was not a good game against Inter Milan, it is important that we start well here. Sampdoria is a good team, we show respect, we came here for the win and I’m happy to contribute a goal for the team.

Luciano Spalletti recently praised the 24-year-old for his leadership on the pitch; communication and motivation of his teammates in the field.

“Someone has to stand up for the team and speak up, we can’t always wait for it to be captain Di Lorenzo, and the coach also gave us the motivation we need. Anyone can get up and speak for the team.

“Of course I have to motivate my teammates, just as they motivate me, we have to keep talking to each other and keep going.”

Up next for Osimhen and his Napoli teammates is another tough clash against the resurgent Juventus at the Estadio Diego Maradona on Friday night.
