Workers at Shoprite in Warri, Delta state, embarked on a peaceful protest against management on Saturday over alleged non-payment of their annual bonuses, prompting the closure of the sprawling mall located in the Roundabout business district of Effurun, in the metropolis.

PUNCH Metro deduced that the aggrieved workers were specifically protesting their unpaid bonuses which they said should be paid in full but were reportedly cut.

Shoppers who packed the mall in the early hours of Saturday were disappointed when aggrieved workers locked the main entrance, preventing human and vehicular movement into the complex.

One of the aggrieved workers who did not want his name printed told reporters that his complaint with management stemmed from only N1000 being paid as a bonus over the last year, in stark contrast to his contractual agreement.

No members of the shopping center’s administrative staff were available to comment on the development at the time of filing this report.
