Former Gombe State Sports Commission Chairman Malam Farouk Yarma has called on Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL) debutants Doma United to stay focused despite a draw at home in their first game of the 2023 NPFL season.

One of the two privately owned clubs in Nigeria’s top flight, Doma United, was forced to a 1-1 draw last Sunday against Sunshine Stars in the Week One match played at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.

Charles Chibuke scored Doma United’s first NPFL goal in the 38th minute, but Sunshine Stars’ Ibrahim Yusuf equalized in the death for a share of the spoils.

A gigantic crowd had packed into Pantami Stadium to see Doma United make history by winning their first game in the NPFL, but that didn’t happen.

However, Yarma, who served as Gombe State Commissioner for Youth Empowerment, said Doma United and their many fans should be proud of what they were able to achieve against the most illustrious Sunshine Stars.

According to him, the league is a marathon, so the true fans of Doma United must remain steadfast in their support for the club.

“I understand how you feel after drawing your first Premier League game at home to Sunshine Stars.

“I want to urge you to remain resolute. The league season has just started. You have a good team, so if you stay focused, you will surely go far.

“To the fans, keep up your support. No team can excel without the support of the fans. Your support is very important for the success of the club,” said Yarma.
