The National Association of Nigerian Students has said it will take a strong stance against the gasoline shortage if the Federal Government does nothing to end the problem.

He further claimed that the unavailability of fuel had made it extremely difficult for students to cope with the increased fees at their various universities.

The Vice President (External Affairs) of the student body, Akinteye Babatunde-Afeez, in an interview with saturday punch, the association stated at its recent Executive Council meeting on December 10, it disapproved of the issue of fuel shortages.

He also blamed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited for being “mischievous”, noting that the matter was further complicated by “some of the major oil traders”.

saturday punch reports that queues for PMS, which were gradually decreasing recently, have suddenly re-emerged in many cities, including Lagos and Abuja.

Babatunde-Afeez said: “NNPCL and the security operative are just being naughty. Where exactly is this fuel shortage coming from? we do not know

“NNPCL has come out to say that there is enough fuel that can circulate during the festive season. Now, what is delaying the distribution? The main traders are involved in this corruption. Some of them get the oil directly because they can import it. Now look at the endless queues, which add to the suffering of Nigerian students.

“The government has to explain to us. It is a compound problem. As NANS, we are directing our issue to the Minister of Petroleum and the MD of NNPCL. We don’t want to know how they will do it but they must end this fuel shortage.

“We are not kidding. We are ready for them, otherwise there will be a nationwide shutdown.”
