The Commissioner for Sports, Youth and Social Development, the Honorable Emeka Okoronkwo, reaffirmed the determination of the administration of Her Excellency, the Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma, to work together with critical stakeholders in sports within and outside Imo State to accelerate the development of sports in the heart of the east.

The Hon. Okoronkwo, who revealed this to the Nigerian Sports Writers Association, Imo Chapter last week on Friday on a courtesy visit to his Ministry of Youth and Sports, Imo Secretary of State, Owerri office revealed that SWAN, Imo Chapter would be at the forefront of his administration’s desire. to change the face of sports in Imo state.

He charged Imo SWAN members to stand firm in carrying out their duties in accordance with the ethics of their profession and at the same time assured them of the absolute zeal of Governor Uzodinma’s administration to take sports to greater heights in through the Ministry of Sports.

The Okigwe-born commissioner hinted that the Imo government has allocated plans to ensure that various sports associations are back in business so that the state can take its rightful place in sports in the country and even beyond.

“We are determined to change the face of sports in Imo State and want to use Imo SWAN as the publicity tool through which all state government sports matters are reported,” said the Hon. Okoronkwo.

“We know that all stakeholders in sport should be invited to bring home the political momentum of the Imo Government through sport. I want to ask SWAN to do what they can through positive reporting to help change the face of sports in Imo State.

“Sports in the state is experiencing a resurgence since the arrival of Governor Hope Uzodinma and my team and I have vowed to take it to another level.

“The state performance at the National Sports Festival in Asaba, Delta State, is just the tip of the iceberg. We will continue to improve.”

While reacting, President, SWAN, Imo, Chief Everest Ezihe applauded the Youth and Sports Commissioner’s gesture to change the face of sports in the state and pledged the support of bona fide sports writers in the state to help achieve that purpose.
