FCT, Abuja – The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Northeast Youth and Stakeholders Forum has withdrawn its support for APC vice-presidential candidate Senator Kashim Shettima.

At a press conference in Abuja on Thursday January 12, the Shettima group undermined their efforts.

Acting chair of APC’s North East Youth and Stakeholders Forum Shaibu Tilde said Shetima’s snub soon after his victory led to the loss of some key members of the structure.

“We, the youth of the northeast, have lost our zone treasurer from his home state of Borno, Yusuf Shariff Banki, because he did not support the youth of the region to launch a mass mobilization. It is worth noting, gentlemen, that Sheriff brought more than five hundred thousand young people to the PDP.

“As if that wasn’t enough, our zonal organizing secretary, Hon. Murtala Gamji from Taraba led over two hundred young people to the NNPP, and our zonal women’s leader, Amina Manga from Bauchi led one million women to the PDP.

“Of the 8 million youth votes we have already mobilized for Bola Tinubu, our presidential candidate, Senator Kashim Shettima has already looted more than 3 million through his actions with the wave of defections from our party. This is simply unacceptable!

“In light of this, we urge our party’s vice-presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima, to immediately reverse his steps and correct his mistake for the sake of the party, the region and the abundant youth.”

He regretted that Senator Shettima failed to recognize the group as a formidable youth force in the party that supported him in realizing his ambition of becoming the Northeast region’s vice-presidential candidate.

“As a result, the APC North East Youth Forum wishes to withdraw its unequivocal support for Senator Shettima.”

Shettima treats all groups equally, APC PCC reacts

In response to the claims, the APC presidential campaign council has reacted to the group’s allegation of abandonment against Shettima.

According to the council, Shettima has been working with all groups and will not favor anyone over others.

This was announced by the Minister of State, Labor and Employment and main spokesperson for the council, Festus Keyamo SAN in a talk with the Vanguardia newspaper on the night of Thursday, January 12.

2023: Tinubu will be elected president, says Chimaroke Nnamani

For his part, the former governor of Enugu state, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, has reaffirmed his preference for Tinubu to become the next president of Nigeria.

Nnamani, who represents Enugu-East in the Senate, insisted that Tinubu would be elected president in the upcoming elections.

Nnamani said it was important for people to know that their support for Tinubu’s presidential ambition was not driven by personal interest but by integrating the southeast region into Nigerian politics.

2023: ADC federal legislator endorses Tinubu, visits APC campaign office

In a related development, the member of the House of Representatives and head of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the Hon. Leke Abejide, has endorsed Tinubu’s presidential ambition.

Abejide, the chairman of the House Customs committee, made this known when he paid a surprise visit to the APC Kogi West stakeholder meeting held at the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja.

The federal legislator insisted that Tinubu is the best among all the country’s candidates and would make Nigeria a prosperous nation.
