Akwa United will host Nigerian National League Champions Bendel Insurance at Godswill Akpabio Stadium in the league opener

The squad for the new season is made up of old and new players, including three youngsters.

All players are eligible to represent the club in competitions such as the NPFL Nigerian Professional Football League, the State Challenge Cup and the Aiteo cup (FA cup).

The club’s secretary, Elder Omon Bassey, confirmed that the club received the players’ licenses from the league’s organizers, the IMC Interim Management Committee.

The 2021 NPFL champions will kick off the league at home when they host Nigerian National League champion Bendel Insurance at Godswill Akpabio Stadium and will be broadcast live to viewers.

The league will begin on January 8 with Twenty teams drawn into two different groups.

League organizers had previously informed clubs that the 2022-23 NPFL season will be played in an abbreviated format to ensure the country’s premier league schedule is in line with the CAF soccer schedule.

Akwa United is drawn in Group A along with Kwara United, Nasarawa United, Plateau United, Gombe United and Elkanemi.

Others in the group included eight-time champions Enyimba, Bendel Insurance, Shooting Stars and Remo Stars.

In Group B, we have Niger Tornadoes, Doma United, Wikki Tourists, Lobi Stars and defending champions Rivers United.

The group is completed by Abia Warriors, Dakkada FC, Rangers, Sunshine Stars and Bayelsa United.
