The Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, said this in a statement made available to journalists in Akure on Saturday.

He said that a kidnapping case was reported at the police station on December 21, 2022, at 9:00 p.m., by the mother of the kidnapped girl, Mrs. Chukwu-Ezedima.

PPRO said the complainant alleged that the suspect abducted her daughter, Nwasi Chukwu-Ezedima from her Toyota Corolla car in the Lafe area of ​​Akure while she was shopping for food for the family.

Odunlami-Omisanya said the suspect, who allegedly demanded N50 million from the family as a ransom, was arrested on December 31, 2022 at a POS booth while trying to withdraw some of the money.

“During the interrogation, the suspect confessed to the commission of the crime, while the victim was rescued unharmed.

“The suspect will soon be arraigned in court,” the police spokesman said.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian military handed over a man arrested for illegal possession of firearms to police.

Odunlami-Omisanya said a Nigerian Army patrol, while conducting a routine check at Elegbeka in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area, obtained information about the man (names withheld) who was allegedly in possession of a revolver.

She said the patrol team later investigated the allegation and arrested the man with the locally made weapon.

“The suspect initially claimed he found the gun on farmland, but later confessed that he was given the gun by a welder (names withheld) currently at a Correctional Facility in Okene.

“The suspect was handed over to the police and will soon have his day in court,” Odunlami-Omisanya said.
