The Kingdom of Spain has presented a Posthumous Award to the former Nigerian Ambassador to Spain, Ademola Seriki, who passed away at the end of last year while serving as Nigeria’s Envoy to the Kingdom.

The Civil Merit Award was presented this Thursday to the family of the deceased diplomat by the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Álvares, in Abuja.

The late envoy’s wife, Mrs. Wosilat Seriki, and their son, Wale Seriki, received the award on behalf of the family.

The Spanish minister was in Nigeria as part of the efforts to deepen bilateral relations with Nigeria on issues of security, renewable energy, agriculture, maritime security, trade and investment.

In his remarks at the ceremony, Nigerian Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama said the late Seriki took the Award in recognition of his tremendous efforts to strengthen the relationship between the two countries and take it to another level.

“This morning the Minister came and personally on behalf of the King of Spain presented a posthumous National Honor to Ambassador Ademola Seriki who was received by his wife and son and this really showed not only the appreciation of the Spanish government for the excellent work of Ambassador Seriki he has not made Nigeria but appreciation of his personal qualities,” Onyeama said.
